Lighting of Advent Candle of Hope

Leader:   May Hope light the world this Christmas.

              (Light candle of Hope)

Leader:   May Peace light the world this Christmas.

              (Light candle of Peace)

Leader:   May Joy light the world this Christmas.

              (Light candle of Joy)

Leader:   As this season of sparkle and bright unfolds around us
the welcome beauty of love is found, woven into the simplicity of every moment.

People:  May love flow from our hearts with abundance filling every moment with the season’s gifts of hope and peace and joy.

Leader:   May it be shared truly and deeply that all who encounter it be charged with its message and become, themselves, the agents of love. And may our children, who love without reckoning, teach us the truth of this most precious gift—we are nothing without each other.
Let us live, then, in the blessing of love.

People:  May Love light the world this Christmas.

              (Light candle of Love)

*Hymn of Response                       UMH #211 (verses 1 and 7)

“O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”

Invocation (Unison)

Holy God, in Jesus Christ your love took on flesh and walked among us. Through his teachings, his life, his death and resurrection, we witnessed divine love in action -- love that heals and redeems, restores and saves, reconciles and renews. As your disciples we are called to follow you in the way of love. Grant us courage and faith, Lord, to embody your love for the world to all people, at all times, in all places and circumstances. We pray in the name of Love Incarnate. Amen.

Praises, Joys and Concerns

Pastoral Prayer and Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,

the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Everyone says that this is "the most wonderful time of year" but what if it doesn't feel that way to you? Is there a place for you to "be real" at this time of the year? For many, the holiday season is a reminder of what we have lost or what we don't have. So, if you are looking for hope and encouragement in the face of grief, loss, and discouragement, this is a gathering for you.
