*GATHERING HYMN         “Sanctuary"    TFWS  #2164

LIGHTING OF ADVENT CANDLE

Leader:   Rejoice in the Lord always.
(Light the first candle on the Advent wreath)

Leader:  And again, I will say, rejoice.
        (Light the second candle)

Leader:  Jesus is near.  Despite the busy-ness, the pressure, and the assault
of  our senses that so often passes for Christmas, we have the
promise  of scripture that ..... Jesus is near.

When the shopping drains us physically, and the spending drains
             us  financially,
...when we forget which party we're suppose to attend
             on which day,
... when we think we can't stand to hear "Rockin' Around the
             Christmas Tree" one more time.

People: then we will remember to REJOICE ... and again ... REJOICE

Leader:  And we will light a candle to help us remember that Jesus is near.
The peace of God will keep us in Christ Jesus.
          (Light the third candle)

All:  Come, Lord Jesus.  Amen.

*HYMN OF PRAISE              "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem"    #230

* INVOCATION (Responsive)

Leader:  Gracious God, we are a people of many distractions, pulled in
different directions, responding to multiple and often conflicting
             needs.

People:  We thank you for the gifts of Sabbath and worship,

Leader:  for a space and a time to set aside everything that tugs
at us and instead focus our hearts and minds on you.

People:  Draw us more deeply into your presence.

Leader: Grant us rest as we rely on your provision, and faith as
             we trust in our grace.

People:  Quiet our spirits so we may hear your Spirit
                speaking to us. Amen

WE TALK TO GOD THROUGH PRAYER

PRAISES, JOYS AND CONCERNS

PASTORAL PRAYER AND LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth,
as is it is in heaven,
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory, forever  Amen.
