CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Touched by love,
People: Moved by grace,
Leader: Captured by joy,
People: We come to acknowledge the mysterious and wonderful ways of God:
Leader: A snowstorm that quiets our hurry,
People: A humble word that opens a heart,
Leader: A simple dream that sparks new hope,
People: A crackling fireplace fire that unleashes a deep sigh and a warm tear.

Leader: The ordinary reveals the Holy and all the world shall praise God.

*HYMN OF PRAISE     "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty"    #139

 *INVOCATION (Unison)

O God, you create all things. You bear all things, you hope all things, you endure all things. Each of your creatures, all of your children are members of your body. All partake of your promise. Open your heaven and descend like a dove upon the world; make plain your hidden plan, your mysterious purpose for our lives. Standing in the waters of our baptism, we await your presence.

Pastoral Prayer and Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,

the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Introduction

Gospel Lesson                                                          John 15:1-8

Meditation

Prayer of Confession

Leader:   We acknowledge a deep sense of sin and misery. We see ourselves as sinners in need of a Savior. The Spirit of God has awakened us.  Let us pray:

People: Lord, be merciful to me. What shall I do? I dare not remain as I am, and I cannot help myself. My praying will not help me. My hearing will not help me. If I give all my goods to the poor, if I should give my body to be burned, all this would not save my soul. Woe is me. What shall I do?

Leader: You must let your sins go…Now, because we have this threefold assurance of God’s initiative, command, and promise, we may now be bold to risk everything for Christ and to make ourselves totally available to him.

Hymn                               “SpiritSong”                                #347

The leader and people shall pray together:

Wesley’s Covenant Prayer

I am no longer my own, but yours.

Put me to what you will, rank me with whom you will;

     put me to doing, put me to suffering;

     let me be employed for you, or laid aside for you,

     exalted for you, or brought low for you;

     let me be full, let me be empty,

     let me have all things, let me have nothing:

I freely and wholeheartedly yield all things

     to your pleasure and disposal.

And now, glorious and blessed God,

     Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

     you are mine and I am yours.

So be it.

And the covenant now made on earth,

     let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.

During the hymn you may come forward to remember your baptismal vows and renew your covenant with God.

Closing Hymn            “The Summons”                TFWS #2130
