UMC Cooperative Ministry Meeting

May 13, 2017 (@ Asbury)

Meeting opened with prayer at 9:00am

OLD BUSINESS:

· Summer campership update – 14 campers from Henderson have been registered for Wesley Woods.  First is trying to register some members of their new Congolese Association group.  We have sent about $2497 in registration fees so far, leaving us a balance of about $1400.

· The cooperative worship services for Lent were very well received and well attended.  We talked briefly about the issue of transportation and that perhaps we might consider purchasing a Lift-style bus or van as a cooperative endeavor

· We were also reminded of the value of the District Lenten men’s breakfasts

· The work team to Connellsville (during April) went very well

· We had an extended conversation about Kids Café at Kingsley as Second Harvest was pulling their support of the program and we were thinking out loud of what we might do.  Multiple ideas were floated but the final decision obviously falls to Kingsley as they are the host site and primary funding agent.  UPDATE: Kingsley at a recent leadership meeting decided to end the Kids Café program.

NEW BUSINESS:

· Simpson-Cascade has officially changed their name to “Table of Grace” and is initiating multiple updates around that name change

· Church night at the Erie Seawolves will be June 3 (Fireworks Night).  Tickets are still available

· Jim P. mentioned efforts to get teenagers/youth into Central for the ServErie renovations this summer.  We are all encouraged to work on this effort to help our youth gain ownership in the upcoming changes.

· Matt is to contact Karen Seggi (Second Harvest) for a meeting regarding feeding issues related to Glenwood, Henderson/San Juan, Kingsley, and EUMA.  The goal is to get clarity on changes being made at the agency and how they might impact our various feeding ministries.

· The Bishop will visit with the urban pastors on May 16 to discuss the challenges of urban ministry.  Kurt Crays needs to be added to the invite list.

· Glenwood is hoping to host an apologetics event called “Axis” on August 12.  Matt will forward information to the group.  This is training geared towards 6-12th grade students but adults can also benefit.

· We discussed briefly about having another combined short-term mission team to go somewhere.

· Jim P. mentioned a visit he took to Garfield UMC in Cleveland as part of the Mosaix association.  He recommended a book by Chip Freed called “re:mix”.

Next meeting will by July 8 from 9-11am at Glenwood.

Respectfully submitted - Matt Judd
